• The 15-member Charter Review Commission decides to remove an amendment from the ballot that would allow alcohol to be sold at the same times as the other six days.
• A subcommittee with the St. Johns River Water Management District will explore new ways to replenish the Florida Aquifer, including using water from Black Creek.
• Jeff Gaver and his mother Shirley collect used cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers program that allows soldiers a way to call home.

• Green Cove Springs Vice-Mayor Matthew Tinney closes a regular meeting of the city council by complaining about drug sales along Middleburg Avenue, particularly near the Police Athletic League.
• Residents are pleased to get a new entrance at Penney Retirement Community along State Road 16.
• The Clay County School board votes 5-0 to give the Coca-Cola Co. a five-year contract to provide soft drinks to county schools.

30 years ago, 1990
• Incumbent commissioner Garry McIntyre’s bid to be placed on the next ballot without paying qualifying dues was denied after the Supervisor of Elections Office determined some of the names on his qualifying petition weren’t valid.
• According to Supervisor of Elections Dorothy Holt, there are 21,663 registered Democrats, 18,200 Republicans and 2,777 others in Clay County.
• The Clay County 4-H program participates in the statewide program to fight hunger by collecting food and clothing.

40 years ago, 1980
• A public hearing is set between county commissioners and developers about Argyle Forest over concerns of accessibility of police, fire and rescue vehicles.
• The county commission tables a request by Planning, Zoning and Building Director James Catlett for four-month leave of absence without pay.
• Alonzo Plummer and Charlotte Smith, both of Green Cove Springs, were selected as the Disco King and Queen at a contest held at McDonald’s.
