• A crowd of 1,400 attended a program at Green Cove Springs Junior High where 40,000 books were given away following Hurricane Irma.
• Middleburg residents are frustrated because the bridge over the south prong of Black Creek remained closed on County Road 218 for nearly two weeks following Hurricane Irma.
• Ollie’s Bargain Outlet opens on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park and shoppers were pleased to find prices similar to Black Friday sales.

• The Clay County School Board decides to review the county’s first charter school application again after deciding Orange Park Performing Arts Academy didn’t meet all the minimum requirements.
• County businesses push for the passage of an amendment on the November ballot to revise the time alcohol can be sold from 2 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Thousands attend the two-day 30th annual Orange Park Fall Festival.

20 years ago, 2002
• Former Penney Farms Town Clerk Patricia Ann Dixon is arrested and charged with grand theft after $8,031.76 goes missing from the town’s general fund.
• Clay Behavioral Health Center asks the Board of County Commissioners to create KidsNet, an organization designed to work with the Florida Department of Children and Families.
• The Ridgeview High boys and girls cross country teams win the county championship meet.

30 years ago, 1992
• The Orange Park Town Council approves the sale of $6 million in bonds to fund five water and sewer projects.
• Etta Cooper Robinson, 34, of Keystone Heights, is killed in an accident at the intersection of Gasline Road and Blanding Boulevard, while two others were life-flighted to area hospitals.
• The three-day air show at the NAS Jacksonville will feature the Blue Angels, the Navy’s primary demonstration team that was created in Middleburg.

40 years ago, 1982
• The county commission agrees with the Local Government Study Commission to prepare a job description for a new county administrator.
• The Clay County Chamber of Commerce recognized Anita Jones (Outstanding Military Spouse) and Nick Chapman (Outstanding Citizen of the Year).
• The Hickory Cove Baptist Church stages the musical drama “Home Again – A Portrait of a Family” at its Sunday services.
