Every week, Clay Today will test or enlighten your knowledge on a variety of topics. This week, prove your identification at the polls.

A lot’s been said about requiring voters to prove their identification at the polls. In fact, some activists insist it restricts some from voting. Nothing could be further from the truth in Clay County.

Registered voters are required to prove their identities here, but they have many options. In addition to a driver’s license, an identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles or a passport, precinct workers will also honor military, student, retirement center, public assistance and neighborhood association IDs.

If none of those forms of identification have a photo, you will get a provisional ballot. In Florida, which requires IDs to be verified, there were more than 1.8 additional voters – nearly a 17% increase – in the 2020 presidential election compared to 2016.
