The Iowa-Louisana State women’s game in the Elite Eight shattered records as the most-watched women’s basketball game in United States history, with 12.3 million viewers. So it shouldn’t have been a surprise the Iowa-Connecticut Final Four game beat that with 14.4 million viewers, followed by the Iowa-South Carolina national championship game with 18.9 million viewers. But how do those numbers compare to other major events? They beat the men’s national championship between UConn and Purdue (14.8) by more than four million. Last year’s World Series between Arizona and Texas averaged 9.1 million viewers a night, while the NBA Finals between Golden State and Boston averaged 11.64 million. The Masters attracted 3.53 viewers; U.S. Open Golf had 3.4 million viewers; Wimbledon had 3.2 million viewers; and the Indianapolis 500 had 4.94 million viewers. You go girls!
